Portrait Of Therapist

On identity

As a gay man who grew up in the Deep South during the 1960s and 70s, I know something about what it means to feel different—and about the quiet and not-so-quiet ways people can be misunderstood, judged, or left out.

That experience has shaped the way I listen. And over time, I’ve come to appreciate that while our stories differ, most people carry some experience of feeling marginalized or not fully accepted for who they are.

About Me

David A. Jones, PhD  Licensed Psychologist

I have worked as a licensed psychologist for more than twenty-five years, helping individuals navigate some of life’s most difficult and meaningful seasons.

My approach is collaborative and grounded in careful listening, reflection, and a deep respect for each  person’s story. Rather than rushing toward quick answers, I believe meaningful change often begins with careful listening, reflection, and understanding.

Over time, therapy can help people make sense of their experiences, see new possibilities, and move toward a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.

“The greatest thing David did was hold hope for me until I could recover it myself.”

On spirituality

I was raised in the Southern Baptist tradition, and for a time in adulthood, I stepped away from faith altogether. But over the years, I found myself returning to it—slowly and in my own way—until it became, once again, a familiar and meaningful home in my life.

That journey has shaped my respect for the complexity of people’s spiritual lives. I value love, acceptance, justice, and peace, and I have a particular sensitivity to those who carry wounds or questions related to religion. I work with people across a wide range of beliefs—including different faith traditions, spiritual-but-not-religious perspectives, and those with no faith at all.
